Workplace Education
What will jobs of the future look like? What skills will Nova Scotians need to fill those jobs?
No crystal ball is needed to answer those questions. Industries and businesses in all sectors from service to manufacturing can tell you the future is now.
They know their needs are changing as they move into a global, more technically-advanced era. They know what skills they need in their workers -- and they need those skills right now.

Government is partnering with employers and industry to ensure Nova Scotians have the skills they need to succeed in the workplace. Skill development is an investment in the future of Nova Scotia businesses and in the provincial economy overall.

Workit
It's an opportunity to train your own future.

As a business owner or manager, you cannot afford to not train your employees: there's a need for skilled tradespeople in many industries in Nova Scotia. Filling this void with qualified, well-trained individuals will not only help the economy but could help your business as well.

Canada has an aging population. There are less youth available to enter into the labour market. Finding skilled tradespeople to work in your company will become increasingly more difficult. Added to this challenge is attracting youth who are genuinely interested and committed to learning about your industry.

This is why Workit is underway, allowing you to directly invest in youth apprentices.

Through Workit, you have the opportunity to increase your competitive advantage and address future and current skills shortages. Young, enthusiastic and talented individuals in your community are willing and able to become journeypeople in the skilled trades. And Workit can help you find them.

The One Journey: Work and Learn program
Employment and education are often considered separate activities – yet experience has shown that career development is an evolving, multi-faceted process. The One Journey: Work & Learn program takes into account that the best employees view learning as an ongoing opportunity to develop their skills and adapt to new situations, and the best employers recruit avid learners to their teams.

The One Journey: Work & Learn program brings these people together through an innovative partnership with government departments, industry leaders and referral agencies. The program addresses skills gaps by helping workers develop the basic skills set required to satisfy the employment criteria of today’s companies.
